The Gîte's layout - sleeps 4

This 2-storey gîte (cottage) is very unusual, and combines old and new perfectly.

A troglodyte ground floor consists of a bedroom (two single beds of 90 x 200), as well as a bathroom with walk-in shower and WC.

You enter a completely different world at the top (21 steps) of the wrought iron staircase made by a master craftsman: a modern floor with a window wall of over 20m². It faces north and therefore won’t become to warm on sunny days. It is an ideal observation point to admire the chateau and the town of Amboise ... This floor has a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a lounge area: there is a TV, a convertible sofa bed and a separate toilet. The gîte can accommodate up to 6 people.

From the living room, you have direct access to a private 16m2 terrace. Also at your disposal :

T he gîte's name is linked to the history of Amboise

This 3-star gîte (Cottage) was built on the exact spot where Léonardo da Vinci set up his easel to draw the castle in 1517.

His work is now part of the Royal collection at Windsor, but you can admire some of the reproductions in the gîte or in Clos Lucé , the last dwelling place of the Italian master. The view remains enchanting and unique: a magical experience is guaranteed! So don’t forget your camera, to capture those moments when the lighting is exceptional.

At night fall, the flood lights, light up the facades of the chateau, where during the season, the “Son et Lumiere’s” shows (sound and light shows) are performed. Just one more good reason for choosing this place for your break in the Loire Valley. The "sounds and lights" shows are visible from the gîte!

The sunrises and sunsets are an absolute delight…

This gîte was not always a holiday rental…

In 2016, great care was taken in the reconstruction and complete restoration of this eco-gîte. Moreover, the wrought iron staircase, made by a local master craftsman, shows all the elegance of fine ironwork.

Ecological materials contribute to the tranquillity of the place: aerial lime, cork panels, hemp bricks and poplar planks.

The troglodyte ground floor is typical of the local habitat of the 18th century, at that time, they were occasionally occupied by vineyard workers. We have restored it exactly as it is, keeping the original terracotta tiles and old fireplace.

When we arrived here in 1997, our more elderly neighbours told us some interesting stories. During the Second World War, enemy planes flew over Amboise and frightened the inhabitants with their roaring engines. At the slightest air raid warning, the neighbours - then only children - had to come quickly and hide in the gîte, which was used as a cellar and hiding place during these hard times. In fact, it was the first cellar on the way leading from the town centre.

So therefore, all we could do was to restore the place to the best of our ability, in order to respect the spirit of this place !
